We Sent 5,000 Handwritten Notes Locally. Here’s What Happened.

Let’s not overcomplicate this. We sent out 5,000 handwritten compliment slips for a garage door company.

• No funnels.
• No ads.
• No “clever marketing strategy”.

Just handwritten notes.

And here’s the important bit! At the time of writing this, we’ve only delivered around 85% of them so far.

So these results? They’re not even from the full campaign yet.

And this is what’s come back already:

• 17 calls
• 14 quotes
• 9 sales

Then this dropped in shortly after.

Honestly, we couldn’t have written it better ourselves. Ps. Don’t worry, we didn’t lol

Why this works (and why it still surprises people)

If you run a garage door business (or anything similar), you already know:

• You don’t need loads of leads.
• You need a few good ones.

That’s it. And that’s where handwritten outreach does its thing.

• It lands differently.
• It feels different.
• It gets read.

Simple as that.

I could just write them myself.

You could. People say this all the time. And technically, yes – you absolutely can, but, let’s just walk through what that actually looks like.

Writing 5,000 by hand…

Each one:

• about 70–100 words
• written neatly
• consistently
• 3 minutes to keep it honest.
• 250 hours.

If you’re writing 7 hours a day (which is generous, your hand will be screaming): just over 7 weeks.
Full-time. Writing the same thing.

Over.
And over.
And over again.

And here’s the bit no one tells you.

Around the 1,000 mark:

• your hand hurts
• your writing gets worse
• you slow down

Around 2,000:

• you start cutting corners
  

Around 3,000:

• you’re questioning all your life decisions

Fine, I’ll pay someone to do it.

Also an option.

• Minimum wage math: ~£2,800 just for the writing
• But realistically (with tax, time, mistakes, managing someone): £3,500 – £4,800
• Then print: ~£1,100 for 5,000 decent 170gsm slips

So you’re at: £4,500 – £5,500 plus waiting for nearly 2 months.

What this one actually cost

This campaign cost £2,500 all in all. That’s: 50p per handwritten piece

And not rushed, messy writing either. We mean:

• neat
• consistent
• actually readable
• looks like someone cared

Side by side (because this is where it clicks)

Its a real pen too – no printing trickery! So, You can do it yourself. But the real question is, why would you?

If you’re in garage doors (or similar)

They needed 3 sales for this to be a success. They got 9 sales and the campaign isn’t even fully delivered yet.
